Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Deleon-Diaz standing in front of the apartment complex, displaying defiant behaviour and refusing to comply with their commands. Witnesses informed the police that the victim, who was still inside the apartment, had sustained severe stab wounds during the altercation.

Despite attempts to de-escalate the situation, the suspect continued to exhibit non-compliant behaviour, indicating that he was armed with a knife. In response, officers fired a non-lethal sponge round at Deleon-Diaz, enabling them to safely apprehend him without further incident.
