Accident – Death – Obituary News : A 23-year-old man from Daman was tragically found dead on the banks of a pond in Navsari district on Tuesday after attempting to escape from police pursuit. The body of the deceased has been sent for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death, according to the Billimora police.
The Dungri police in Valsad district received a tip-off on Monday night about two young men travelling in a Tata Safari car carrying a consignment of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) from Daman. Acting on the information, barricades were set up at Balwada village near Billimora. However, the suspects broke through the barricade and fled, leading to a high-speed chase by the Dungri police team that crossed into Navsari district police jurisdiction.
An officer involved in the pursuit stated, “As the chase ensued, the Billimora police were also alerted and joined in the pursuit. The car eventually crashed into a pole, prompting the driver and his accomplice to abandon the vehicle. While one of the suspects fled to Dhakwada village, the other sought refuge at a nearby pond.”
Subsequently, a resident of Dhakwada made a grim discovery of a body at the pond, later identified as Badrinath Mayavanshi, aged 23. Inspector Pradip Arya of the Billimora police confirmed the finding, stating, “The villager discovered the body on the pond’s banks. The body has been transferred to Navsari civil hospital for a thorough postmortem examination, and we are eagerly awaiting the results to establish the cause of death. Our search for the second suspect is ongoing.”
In a significant development, the Billimora police recovered 750 tetra packs of IMFL valued at Rs 37,500 from the abandoned car. A case under the Prohibition Act has been registered, with authorities revealing that the illicit liquor was being transported to Surat.
The incident has sparked concerns and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the young man’s untimely demise. As investigations continue and authorities delve deeper into the case, the community awaits answers and justice for the deceased individual..
