A man from Hot Springs, Joshua Thomas Lynch, aged 25, was arrested on Monday morning on a total of 21 felony charges. These charges are related to the alleged abuse of his 7-week-old daughter, resulting in multiple injuries of varying severity.

Lynch, who resides on Cherry Lane, was apprehended at the Garland County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 10 a.m. He now faces seven counts of second-degree domestic battery, each carrying a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison. Additionally, he is charged with seven counts of aggravated assault on a family or household member, and seven counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, each punishable by a maximum of six years behind bars.

Despite having no prior criminal record, Lynch remains in custody with zero bond. He is scheduled to appear in Garland County District Court today.

Background of the Case

The incident came to light on June 9 when authorities were alerted by Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock regarding a case of domestic battery involving a 7-week-old female infant. The child had initially been taken to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs by her parents, including Lynch, after displaying unusual symptoms such as limited movement in her left arm.

Medical professionals at CHI identified a fracture in the infant’s arm and subsequently transferred her to ACH for further evaluation. At the hospital, it was discovered that the baby had sustained multiple fractures across her body, including fractured ribs, arms, legs, and even an intracranial hemorrhage.

Doctors at Children’s Hospital concluded that the severity and nature of the injuries were indicative of abuse, prompting them to report the case to the Garland County Sheriff’s Office.

Confession and Arrest

On Monday, Lynch was interviewed by Sheriff’s Investigator Charlie Mowery at the sheriff’s office. During the interrogation, Lynch reportedly confessed to several acts of violence against his daughter, including pulling on her legs, squeezing her ribs, shaking her, and yanking her arm. Shockingly, each of these admissions corresponded with the specific injuries suffered by the infant.

Lynch allegedly attributed his actions to frustration, claiming that he caused harm to his daughter in moments of emotional distress. Following the interview, Lynch was promptly taken into custody and booked at the Garland County Detention Center.
