Tragic Accident Involving Houston ISD Counselor and Son in Missouri City

A devastating incident occurred in Missouri City, Texas, last week when a mother and her 16-year-old son were struck and killed by a police car. The victims have been identified as 53-year-old Angela Stewart, a dedicated Houston ISD counselor, and her son, Mason Stewart.

The community is in mourning following the loss of Angela Stewart, a beloved member of the school staff. Asst. principal Tonya Chevalier informed parents of the tragic news, expressing the school’s deep regret at the unexpected passing of Angela Stewart.

Authorities reported that the fatal collision took place on June 20 after a Missouri City police officer responded to a call regarding a robbery in progress at an ATM on Cartwright Road. As the officer was en route to the scene, the Stewarts pulled out of a Dollar Tree parking lot and were struck by the police car.

Mason, who had recently obtained his driver’s license, was behind the wheel at the time of the accident. Tragically, both he and his mother lost their lives in the collision.

The Stewart family revealed that it was Mason’s 16th birthday on the day of the accident, adding to the heart-wrenching nature of the tragedy.

Witnesses at the scene described hearing a loud impact as the police cruiser collided with the Stewarts’ vehicle, causing it to catch fire. Shockingly, hours after the crash, a person was discovered in the back of the police car, prompting confusion and questions surrounding the circumstances of their presence.

The individual found in the back of the patrol car was taken to Ben Taub Hospital for treatment, with police clarifying that they were not under arrest. Authorities are actively investigating the situation to determine why the person was in the cruiser and why it took so long to discover their presence.

Missouri City police have confirmed that the officer involved in the collision has been with the department for less than a year, having previously worked at another agency for approximately two years. Questions have arisen regarding whether the officer had activated the cruiser’s lights and sirens before the fatal crash.
