A tragic incident unfolded in Minnesota over the weekend as sheriff’s deputies responded to a single-car crash on Interstate 90, south of Rochester, and made a horrifying discovery. A 35-year-old woman was found dead in the back seat of the vehicle, leading to the arrest of the driver on charges of interference with a dead body.
The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office reported that the accident occurred just before 7 a.m. on Saturday. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the driver, identified as 32-year-old Margot Lewis, outside the vehicle receiving assistance from a passerby.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, deputies made the grim discovery of the deceased woman in the backseat. The sheriff’s office noted that the condition of the deceased raised suspicions, indicating that her death was not a result of the car crash.
Following the crash, Lewis was transported to a hospital for treatment of her injuries before being taken into custody once medically cleared. She now faces charges of interference with a dead body and obstructing legal processes.
The investigation took a further dark turn when the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, conducted a welfare check at the home of the deceased woman. The search revealed evidence of violence at the residence.
The identity of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of next-of-kin. Lewis is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday to face the charges brought against her. It remains unclear if additional charges will be filed in Hennepin County, where the scene of violence was discovered.
