Charges have been filed against a 17-year-old individual in connection with a shooting incident that occurred in Milwaukee’s Washington Park last week. The incident resulted in the death of a 17-year-old and injury to a 15-year-old.
The individual identified as Onterio M Girley, Jr is facing multiple charges including:
- First degree recklessly endangering safety and use of a dangerous weapon
- Possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent
- Sell/possess/use/transporting a machine gun
- Bail jumping
According to the criminal complaint, the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a fight involving approximately 50 individuals at Washington Park. Detectives observed groups of people aged 14-18 moving in groups. During their investigation, they heard gunshots and witnessed the suspect, later identified as Girley, holding a gun in the air. The detective noted the presence of a “switch” on the pistol’s slide that enabled the firearm to function as a fully automatic weapon.
Girley continued to fire multiple rounds and attempted to flee, leading to a pursuit by law enforcement officers. The detective managed to intercept Girley using a squad car, resulting in his apprehension. A subsequent search led to the recovery of the firearm near a residential fence.
Records indicate that Girley had previously been adjudicated as a minor in an armed robbery case, which prohibited him from owning a firearm. Despite this, he was charged with possession of a firearm as an adjudicated delinquent of a felony earlier this year. Girley was released on bail following this charge.
