Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A man from Massachusetts is facing DUI and other charges following an incident on Interstate 91 in Middletown over the weekend. Connecticut State Police responded to a report of a disabled vehicle creating a hazardous situation on I-91 north between the rest area and Exit 20 in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Upon arrival, troopers found a black GMC Sierra pickup truck with a Massachusetts license plate parked in the right climbing lane. There were several damaged traffic cones nearby, and the engine of the vehicle was running with the driver slumped over the steering wheel.

Despite multiple attempts to wake the driver, he remained unresponsive. Troopers had to break one of the truck’s windows to rouse the man from his state of unconsciousness. The driver then resisted when troopers tried to escort him out of the vehicle and even attempted to drive away before being pulled out of the truck.

Once outside the vehicle and in a travel lane of I-91, the man continued to be combative and uncooperative, posing a danger to himself and passing motorists. After being pulled off the road and into the shoulder, the man still resisted as troopers tried to handcuff him. Eventually, troopers had to use a taser to subdue and handcuff him.

Medics arrived at the scene to evaluate the man, identified as 24-year-old Sean O’Neill from Wakefield, Massachusetts. Despite being offered medical attention, O’Neill declined to be taken to the hospital. During the investigation, troopers detected a strong smell of alcohol emanating from O’Neill and found alcohol containers in plain view in the pickup truck.

O’Neill was taken to Troop H in Hartford where he failed multiple field sobriety tests. He now faces charges including two counts of interfering with police, improper parking, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, operating under the influence, second-degree reckless endangerment, and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

After being released on $20,000 bond, O’Neill is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on July 12.
