Reports suggest that the officers were summoned to the location due to a man who was reportedly intoxicated and causing property damage by swinging a bat inside a residence. The individual who contacted the police was found hiding in a bathroom with three children.

Upon arrival at the scene, two officers encountered Alonzo outside the property, where he proceeded to strike an occupied vehicle with a pickaxe. Despite repeated commands from the officer to drop the weapon, Alonzo continued to advance towards the officer. In response to the imminent threat, the officer discharged his firearm. However, Alonzo persisted in his aggressive behavior, ultimately throwing the pickaxe at the officer.

Despite the efforts of the officers to administer life-saving procedures and the subsequent arrival of emergency medical services, Alonzo was pronounced dead at the scene. The forensic investigation unit of LPD, along with the office of professional standards, promptly responded to the incident.
