BEAVER TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A Knox woman found herself in hot water after being accused of consuming a coffee drink while browsing a store in Beaver Township, Clarion County, without paying for it.
The incident, which took place at Tom’s Riverside on Thursday, June 6, caught the attention of Clarion-based State Police, who subsequently filed criminal charges against the individual involved, identified as 50-year-old Ronnda Eileen Brewer from Knox.
According to a store employee, the alleged theft was brought to their attention when an empty Starbucks Coffee drink was discovered on a shelf. Reviewing surveillance footage, the employee was able to identify Brewer as the individual seen drinking the coffee while shopping.
Police investigation revealed that Brewer was observed picking up the Starbucks drink and consuming it while perusing the store at approximately 6:33 p.m. on Monday, June 3. Subsequent footage showed Brewer attempting to conceal the empty container on a shelf within the store.
The value of the stolen drink was determined to be $3.69, according to the complaint filed.
Further scrutiny of the surveillance video enabled the authorities to identify Brewer’s vehicle and license plate, leading to her apprehension as the suspect in question. It was also noted that this was not Brewer’s first offense related to retail theft.
As a result of the incident, Brewer is facing charges of Retail Theft-Take Merchandise, classified as a Misdemeanor 2 offense. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 2, at 9:15 a.m., with Judge Jarah Lee Heeter presiding over the case.
It serves as a reminder that even seemingly minor acts of theft can have legal repercussions and should be taken seriously.
