LYON COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) – A man from New York was transporting 123 cows when his semi-trailer overturned in Lyon County on Monday morning, leading to the tragic euthanization of 19 cows at the scene, as confirmed by officials.
Emergency Response
At around 9:57 a.m., Lyon Co. Deputies and Rural Fire were called to the intersection of US-56 and Road K following reports of a semi-trailer that had flipped over in the north ditch.
Incident Details
Upon arriving at the scene, it was discovered that the driver, identified as Thomas Romano, aged 35, was operating a 1998 Peterbilt and had tried to execute a right-hand turn onto Road K.
Unfortunately, during the turning manoeuvre, the semi-trailer’s passenger side axle became lodged in the ditch, preventing further movement and causing the vehicle to tip over onto its right side.
Rescue Efforts
Efforts were made by a local farmer to assist Romano by using a tractor to pull the semi-trailer, but these attempts proved unsuccessful, leading to the eventual overturning of the vehicle.
Thankfully, No Injuries Reported
Despite the dramatic incident, authorities confirmed that there were no injuries sustained by any individuals involved in the accident.
