FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A man who stole a Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) cruiser and led officers on a chase in Fair Oaks on Friday morning was arrested, officials said Saturday.

According to FCPD, the incident took place on Friday at around 11:35 a.m. when they received a report of a stolen car near the Fair Oaks Mall.

Upon arrival, an officer discovered the stolen car parked at the mall with three individuals inside. The driver, later identified as 46-year-old Kenton Smith of no fixed address, attempted to walk away from the scene as the officer approached.

During the interaction with the police, one of the passengers, identified as 30-year-old Eric Gutierrez of Ashland, exited the vehicle and proceeded to steal the officer’s unmarked police cruiser.

Subsequently, officers initiated a brief pursuit of Gutierrez after he refused to comply with their commands. The chase ended with Gutierrez crashing into two police cruisers before being apprehended. Both he and two officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision.

The other passenger, 28-year-old Natrua Mayfield-Jackson of Maryland, as well as Smith, were taken into custody at the Fair Oaks Mall without incident.

Gutierrez was transported to the Adult Detention Center and charged with two counts of Grand Larceny – Auto Theft, Grand Larceny, and Felony Speed to Elude. He is currently being held without bond.

Similarly, Mayfield-Jackson was also taken to the Adult Detention Center and served with two outstanding warrants, leading to her detention without bond.
