EUNICE, La. — A shocking incident unfolded at a Walmart in Eunice, Louisiana on Saturday, as a mother reportedly threw her infant child into a trash can during a heated altercation. The disturbing incident occurred just after 3:30 p.m., prompting swift police action.
Law enforcement officers were summoned to the Walmart premises in response to a fight involving multiple women. By the time the police arrived, the altercation had subsided, and the women involved were taken into custody, as reported by KLFY.
Among the individuals detained was Brionka Benjamin, a 38-year-old woman who was reportedly holding her baby when the fight erupted. According to KATC, Benjamin allegedly threw her baby into a nearby trash can during the altercation, while also striking another individual.
Fortunately, the infant did not sustain any injuries in the harrowing incident. The child was subsequently entrusted to the care of other family members, as confirmed by the news outlet.
Brionka Benjamin now faces charges of simple battery and cruelty to juveniles, according to KLFY. Additionally, her niece, Makatelynn Benjamin, aged 20, was also apprehended and is confronting charges of simple battery in connection to the altercation.
