Over the weekend, the city of Chicago was plagued by a wave of violence, with eight individuals losing their lives and 22 others sustaining injuries in shootings, as confirmed by authorities.

Between 6 p.m. on Friday and 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, a total of 25 shooting incidents took place, resulting in 31 victims across the city.

Tragically, the violence escalated to the point where one individual was beaten to death during a confrontation in the Austin neighborhood on Friday night, bringing the tally of fatal victims to nine.

Chicago police provided details on several incidents that occurred over the weekend:

  • A 16-year-old boy, identified as Benicio Gomez and a student at Amundsen High School, was tragically killed in a shooting near North Rockwell and West Hollywood on Friday evening. Two other individuals were also wounded in the same incident.
  • In the early hours of Saturday morning, a 34-year-old man was discovered dead with gunshot wounds in a parking lot near the Old Town Square shopping center.
  • On the South Side, a 44-year-old man lost his life after being shot near Dearborn Homes on Saturday morning.
  • Another 16-year-old boy fell victim to gun violence during an argument in Englewood on Saturday night.
  • A 49-year-old man was fatally shot in Little Village on Saturday afternoon, with ShotSpotter technology alerting authorities to the scene.
  • Tragically, two men were found shot dead in a Jeep in West Pullman on Sunday morning.
  • Later on Sunday, a 19-year-old man was found dead from gunshot wounds in Little Village, with two additional victims arriving at Mt. Sinai Hospital with gunshot injuries.

Among the victims affected by the weekend’s surge in gun violence was a 12-year-old girl, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of the attacks.
