Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragic incident unfolded in Westford, United Kingdom, as a 6-year-old non-verbal child on the autism spectrum, identified as Zayan Mayanja, managed to escape his home through a window on Sunday night. The young boy was later discovered in a Westford lake in the early hours of Monday morning and was subsequently pronounced dead at Lowell General Hospital.

Upon receiving notification that Zayan had slipped out of his house around 9:12 p.m. on Sunday, Westford police immediately sprang into action. All available officers embarked on a search mission, scouring nearby parks and neighbourhoods in a desperate attempt to locate the missing child. The scale of the search operation escalated rapidly, with K-9 units, drones, and the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing all joining forces to track down Zayan. In a bid to speed up the search process, police issued a revere 911 alert to residents in the vicinity and deployed a boat on Nabnasset Lake.

Finally, at approximately 12:08 a.m. on Monday, the boy was discovered in the lake behind a residence on Lake Shore Drive South. Police wasted no time in administering life-saving measures, including CPR, before rushing Zayan to Lowell General Hospital. Sadly, despite their best efforts, the young child was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

An ongoing investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding Zayan’s tragic demise. The Westford Police Department has extended their deepest condolences to the bereaved family and friends of the young boy, urging the public and media to respect their privacy during this difficult period. Zayan was a student at Westford Public Schools, and the district has made grief counselors available to offer support to those in need.

In light of this heartbreaking incident, police have urged residents with family members on the autism spectrum or with cognitive conditions to contact Westford Police and enrol in the department’s cognitive alert registration program. By doing so, law enforcement will be better equipped to locate their loved ones in the event of a similar emergency..
