Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Jaipur: A meme circulating on social media has resulted in the tragic death of an elderly waste collector in Lohawat, Jodhpur. The man, identified as Pratapram Chauhatan from Barmer, used to earn his livelihood by collecting and selling plastic bottles and other waste materials.

The incident occurred on Sunday when the elderly man was harassed by some youths who repeatedly taunted him with the phrase “Bhangaaar Leveno Hai.” Distressed by the mockery, the man decided to take his own life by hanging himself on a tree in front of onlookers.

Passersby were shocked by the scene, but instead of helping him, some youths fled the area. By the time the police arrived at the scene, it was too late, and the man had already passed away due to suffocation.

Background of the Tragic Event

A few months prior to the incident, a Japanese tourist named Meguni encountered the elderly man while travelling in Marwar. When the tourist offered to help him, the man responded with his usual phrase, “Do you want to buy some waste?” This interaction was recorded by the tourists and shared on social media, where it quickly went viral.

Subsequently, the elderly man became a target of mockery and ridicule by the youths who would spot him in the area. The videos of the interactions were circulated widely, leading to further distress for the man.

Impact of Social Media on Mental Health

The tragic death of the elderly waste collector highlights the negative impact of social media on mental health. The relentless trolling and harassment faced by the man eventually pushed him to take his own life.

It is important for society to be mindful of the consequences of online behaviour and to treat others with respect and empathy, both online and offline.

As a community, we must strive to create a more compassionate and understanding environment where individuals are not subjected to bullying and ridicule based on their livelihood or circumstances.

May the soul of the elderly waste collector rest in peace, and may this tragic incident serve as a reminder to all of us to be kinder and more considerate towards one another.
