Joseph Ioerger, a 36-year-old man from Statesville, has been handed a prison sentence of 59 to 83 months after pleading guilty to charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.
The charges stem from an incident that took place on June 20, 2023, at the Love’s Truck Stop on Mocksville Highway in Statesville. According to reports from the Statesville Police Department, a masked individual entered the store, brandishing a handgun and demanding money from the clerk. The suspect also requested several packs of cigarettes before fleeing the scene with $560 in cash, cigarettes, and energy drinks.
Following the robbery, the Statesville Police Department’s Violent Crime Unit launched an investigation into the incident, eventually identifying Ioerger as a suspect. On July 6, officers located Ioerger at an address on Crestridge Road in Statesville. Despite initially claiming he was not the individual in the surveillance footage from the truck stop, Ioerger was eventually apprehended after a brief struggle with officers.
During the arrest, officers discovered a 9mm Ruger, two loaded magazines, and two stolen Carolina Panthers rings in Ioerger’s possession. These items had been reported stolen by his stepfather the day prior to the robbery.
