HUBBALLI: A 30-year-old man was discovered deceased on the shores of a lake in Hubballi on Saturday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Akash Matapati, the son of Shekarayya Matapati, who serves as the president of auto rickshaw unions in North Karnataka.
According to reports, Akash was allegedly murdered by individuals believed to be his friends and relatives from his wife’s side.
Akash had tied the knot with Kavya, a Hubballi native, four years ago. The couple has a two-year-old daughter.
Following the tragic incident, the family of the deceased has lodged a formal police complaint against 12 individuals, including Kavya and her parents.
Law enforcement officials have apprehended eight suspects in connection with the case.
The authorities mentioned that apart from a minor wound on the forehead, no significant injuries were found on Akash’s body. The postmortem report is currently pending.
It was reported that Akash had attended a gathering with his friends near a lake in Lohia Nagar on Gouk Road in Hubballi.
Shekarayya, the father of Akash, pointed fingers at Kavya’s family for the tragic demise of his son.
“I come from a ‘social work background’ and I operate an auto rickshaw for my livelihood. My son had been experiencing issues with his wife and her brother, Bharat Nayak, as her family had accumulated debts from various individuals. When they failed to repay the debts, they fled to Mysore and later to Murdeshwar. They continuously pressured my son to provide them with money from his parents, and we were utterly tired of it. Last month, we summoned our son back to our residence, and ever since, her family members had been resentful towards him,” Shekarayya explained.
