Callie Weems, a new mother, was tragically killed in a shooting at a grocery store in Arkansas. Her daughter Ivy, just 10 months old, brought joy and wonder to her life in the months leading up to the incident. Helen Browning, Weems’ mother, fondly remembers their last conversation before the tragedy struck.

On the fateful day, Weems was shot while trying to help another victim at the Mad Butcher store in Fordyce, Arkansas. The alleged gunman, 44-year-old Travis Eugene Posey, went on a shooting spree, resulting in the death of four people and injury to 10 others, including himself.

State police reported that Posey had no personal connection to the victims, and his motive remains unclear. He carried multiple weapons and fired indiscriminately at customers and employees before engaging in a shootout with law enforcement.

The small community of Fordyce was left devastated by the tragedy, with residents expressing fear and concern for the victims still in hospital. The wounded, ranging from 20 to 65 years old, are receiving medical treatment, with some in critical condition.

Community Remembers Victims

Among the victims were Roy Sturgis, known for his simplicity and love for his daughter, and Shirley Taylor, a pillar of strength for her family. Ellen Shrum, another victim, was also identified following the incident.

City council member Roderick Rogers described the scene at the grocery store as a \”war zone,\” highlighting the chaos and fear that gripped the community during the shooting.

Seeking Justice

Travis Eugene Posey, now in custody, faces four counts of capital murder for his role in the shooting. Authorities are working to bring closure to the victims’ families and ensure that justice is served.

While the community mourns the loss of the innocent lives taken too soon, they also rally together to support those affected by the tragedy. The resilience and unity of Fordyce shine through in the face of adversity.

Looking to the Future

As the investigation continues and the community heals, the memory of Callie Weems and the other victims will live on. Their legacy of love, compassion, and selflessness will forever be remembered in Fordyce and beyond.

With a heavy heart, Helen Browning plans to raise her granddaughter Ivy, ensuring that she knows her mother’s love and light. Despite the darkness of this tragedy, the spirit of unity and hope prevails in Fordyce.
