Accident – Death – Obituary News : In a tragic incident that occurred near the Maramba Cultural Bridge in Livingstone, Zambia, 64-year-old Juliana Gle Tourneau from New Mexico lost her life after being thrown out of her safari vehicle by an elephant and subsequently trampled to death. The horrifying incident took place as the vehicle was parked, and the elephant unexpectedly attacked, causing fatal injuries to Tourneau.

After the brutal attack, Tourneau was rushed to a clinic in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, where she was pronounced dead. According to a police statement reported by The Metro, Tourneau sustained severe cuts to her right shoulder blade and forehead, a fractured left foot, and a slightly depressed chest as a result of the elephant’s aggression.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Auxensio Daka revealed that the tragic incident occurred around 5:50 pm when Tourneau was knocked from the parked vehicle, which had come to a halt due to traffic caused by elephants in the vicinity of the Maramba Cultural Bridge. The sudden and unexpected attack by the elephant resulted in Tourneau’s untimely demise, leaving authorities and witnesses in shock.

In a related incident in the Goalpara area of Assam, a 45-year-old man named Subhash Chandra Rabha met a similar fate when he was trampled to death by a wild elephant. Forest officials reported that Rabha’s body was discovered early the following day, and it was confirmed to be him. The forest officials have initiated an investigation into the tragic incident, with the deceased’s body undergoing a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Rabha, a resident of Panditpara village under the jurisdiction of Rangjuli police station, was reportedly attacked by the wild elephant while taking a late-night stroll. The villagers recounted that the elephant dragged Rabha to a nearby village and brutally trampled him to death before disappearing into the wilderness.

The devastating incidents involving the fatal attacks by elephants serve as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by wildlife encounters, especially in regions where human-animal conflicts are prevalent. Authorities are urging caution and vigilance when venturing into areas inhabited by wild animals to prevent such tragic occurrences from happening in the future..
