COLUMBUS, Ohio — A shooting in the Short North Arts District in Columbus early Sunday left ten people injured, with one victim in critical condition, Ohio authorities reported.

Among the victims were two teenagers, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

Suspect Surrenders to Police

In an update at 11:47 p.m. EDT on June 23, a man surrendered to police in connection to the shooting, identifying himself as the driver of a white Honda Civic sought by authorities. The man was arrested and charged with obstructing official business.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and identify all individuals involved in the shooting.

Earlier reports described the shooter as a male dressed in all black who entered the Honda Civic before fleeing the scene.

Details of the Incident

The shooting took place on the 1100 block of North High Street in Columbus around 2:30 a.m. EDT. Six victims were found at the scene with gunshot wounds, while four others were transported to hospitals.

The victims, all males aged between 16 and 27, suffered varying degrees of injuries. One victim remains in critical condition, while the others are in stable condition.

During a press conference, Columbus police stated that a suspect was apprehended shortly after the shooting. The suspect’s vehicle, a white Honda Civic, was seen traveling in the wrong direction before heading westbound.

Community Response

Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther condemned the shooting as “outrageous” and “unacceptable,” emphasizing the need for community collaboration to prevent such incidents in the future.

This marks the second mass shooting in the Short North area within 13 months, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the community in addressing gun violence.
