SALEM Ore. (KPTV) – A tragic incident unfolded in Salem early Sunday morning, resulting in the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to the distressing 911 call just before 1 a.m. reporting the incident at the 5500 block of Skyline Road Southeast.

Despite the deputies’ immediate efforts to administer first aid to the victim, the young boy tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a swift turn of events, 18-year-old David Ayon-Urbano was identified as the primary suspect in the shooting. Ayon-Urbano was promptly arrested on charges of second-degree murder, along with additional allegations, as revealed by the deputies handling the case.

The community is left in shock and mourning as they await Ayon-Urbano’s scheduled arraignment on Monday, where further details of the case are expected to emerge.

An 18-year-old has been indicted in connection to a 2023 shooting that left three people dead, including two PPS students.
