Accident – Death – Obituary News : Minh-Thi Nguyen, affectionately known as Mint by her friends, tragically lost her life in a devastating collision with a box truck at the intersection of Hampshire and Portland streets in Cambridge. The 24-year-old bicyclist was a promising doctoral student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, specializing in atomic, molecular, and optical physics. Her academic journey began at Princeton University, where she completed her undergraduate studies in 2021 before pursuing her doctorate at MIT.

Described as brilliant, humble, and kind, Mint’s untimely death has left a void in the hearts of those who knew her. In response to this heartbreaking loss, a GoFundMe campaign was launched to support the Nguyen family during this difficult time. The fundraiser quickly surpassed its initial goal, raising over $45,000 as a testament to the impact Mint had on those around her.

Tragically, Mint’s death is not an isolated incident in Cambridge. Just weeks before her passing, another cyclist lost their life in a similar collision involving a box truck. The frequency of these accidents has prompted Cambridge Bicycle Safety, an advocacy group, to organize a vigil at Cambridge City Hall to honor the memories of the two victims. The group emphasizes the importance of preventing such tragedies from occurring in the future through improved street infrastructure and heightened road safety measures.

The cycling community in Cambridge is reeling from these recent losses, prompting calls for greater awareness and action to protect vulnerable road users. As friends, family, and supporters gather to mourn Mint and the other victim, the need for safer streets and enhanced cyclist protections is more apparent than ever.

Join us in remembering Mint and the other victim at the vigil scheduled for Monday afternoon at Cambridge City Hall. Let’s stand together to demand safer streets and a future free from preventable cycling tragedies..
