The man who tragically lost his life in a car accident on Friday night has been identified as 75-year-old Irwin Twist, a respected council member for the Cocopah Indian Tribe. The news was confirmed by his family members, who are mourning the loss of their loved one.

Details of the Accident

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) received a distress call on the evening of June 21st around 9 p.m. reporting a collision at the intersection of Avenue C and County 14th Street. According to reports, a Toyota Tacoma travelling south on Avenue C failed to stop at the intersection, resulting in a collision with a Ford F-150.

Tragically, the driver and two passengers of the Ford were rushed to Yuma Regional Medical Center for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Irwin Twist succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash.

Factors Contributing to the Accident

YCSO has indicated that impairment and excessive speed played a role in the collision. The driver and passenger of the Toyota Tacoma also suffered serious injuries and were promptly taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center for urgent medical care.
