Two teenagers were recently apprehended for allegedly burglarizing several vehicles in Hernando County and were subsequently transported to an Ocala facility for detention.

Incident Details

On Thursday, June 20, a male resident contacted authorities to report a vehicle burglary that occurred in the Sterling Hills community of Spring Hill. The victim stated that unknown individuals had unlawfully entered his unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway of his residence on Autumn Amber Drive.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, surveillance footage captured two suspects taking a backpack from the victim’s vehicle, which contained a loaded handgun among other items. The video footage also showed the suspects fleeing to a nearby vehicle parked on the roadside.

Arrest and Investigation

Upon arrival at the scene, HCSO deputies located the suspects’ vehicle in the vicinity with the two teenage males, aged 15 and 17 and hailing from Pinellas County, asleep in the backseat. A handgun, believed to belong to the victim, was found on the floorboard inside the suspects’ vehicle.

Further investigation revealed that both suspects had prior arrests for grand theft and conveyance burglaries. Additionally, the teens were allegedly captured on video trying to break into other vehicles. A search of their vehicle led to the discovery of a second stolen loaded firearm taken from another unlocked vehicle on Golden Lime Avenue in Spring Hill.

Legal Proceedings

Following their arrest, the teenage suspects were taken to the Hernando County Detention Center for processing before being transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Ocala. They are currently facing charges of armed burglary of a conveyance, with two counts against each of them.
