Accident – Death – Obituary News : EUNICE, La. (KLFY)– A shocking incident unfolded at a Walmart in Eunice, Louisiana, when an Opelousas woman allegedly threw her 6-month-old infant into a trash can during a heated altercation. The Eunice Police Department responded to the scene on June 22 at approximately 3:32 p.m. after receiving reports of a fight involving multiple women.
Upon arrival, authorities were able to detain those involved in the altercation. However, upon reviewing surveillance footage, it was discovered that 38-year-old Brionka Benjamin, from Opelousas, had reportedly thrown her infant child into a nearby trash can during the altercation. It was also reported that she had struck another individual during the verbal confrontation near the entrance/exit of the Walmart.
Fortunately, the infant did not sustain any injuries during the incident and was safely released into the care of other family members by the Eunice Police Department.
Brionka Benjamin has been charged with both simple battery and cruelty to juveniles in relation to the incident. Additionally, her niece, 20-year-old Makatelynn Benjamin, also from Opelousas, was arrested and charged with simple battery due to her involvement in the physical altercation.
The Eunice Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident and ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals involved.
