A man was taken into custody following an incident in which shots were discharged at a large gathering that took place after an annual trail ride event early Sunday morning, as reported by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Keith Korenek disclosed that the incident occurred on June 23, 2024, at around 1:00 a.m., when deputies were dispatched to the 6000 block of Munke Road in response to reports of gunfire at a party hosted by the Capital City Trail-Riders (CCT). Deputy Arrison, who happened to be in the vicinity attending to another matter, heard a series of 5-7 rapid gunshots and promptly called for additional law enforcement support. Numerous emergency calls from eyewitnesses also detailed the shooting and an altercation that was unfolding.

The hired armed security personnel engaged by CCT had already restrained the individual responsible for the gunfire and confiscated the weapon prior to the arrival of Deputy Arrison. Deputies Cody Williams, Jason Fowler, and Sgt. Ben Wilson swiftly joined the scene to defuse the situation and bring the gathering to an end.

The alleged perpetrator, identified as 25-year-old Kavion Joiner from Elgin, Texas, was taken into custody on charges of disorderly conduct for brandishing and discharging a firearm in a public setting. In addition, he faces accusations of criminal trespassing with a firearm and failure to vacate the premises after receiving a warning. Joiner is presently detained at the Dan R. Beck Justice Center awaiting the formal judicial proceedings.
