A young woman from Augusta found herself behind bars for the seventh consecutive day after being arrested last week for shoplifting at a Walmart store and assaulting a Richmond County deputy. Shashona Vonner, 22, is currently unable to meet the $16,000 bond set for her charges, which include felony shoplifting, felony obstruction, and criminal trespassing. She is being held at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

The incident took place at a Walmart on Wrightsboro Road on June 16 when Vonner and another woman were caught skip-scanning items at the self-checkout. The total value of the items they attempted to steal exceeded $500, leading to a felony charge. When confronted by store security at the exit, Vonner became agitated upon learning about the felony charge. She then proceeded to kick a computer, causing damage to the monitor and a specialty cord.

Deputy Scott Eyth, a recent addition to the force, attempted to restrain Vonner, but she responded by violently kicking him several times in the upper torso. Additional deputies arrived to assist in subduing the combative suspect. Fortunately, Deputy Eyth did not sustain any serious injuries during the altercation. The total value of the stolen merchandise was determined to be $654.03.

The accomplice in this incident, identified as 37-year-old Rebbie Alls of Augusta, was also charged with felony shoplifting. Alls has since been released on bond while Vonner remains in custody.
