The shooting unfolded on Friday around 11:30 a.m. at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce, a quaint city with a population of approximately 3,200 residents located 104 kilometres south of Little Rock. Shocking footage captured the harrowing scene, showing individuals scrambling for cover as gunshots echoed through the air. The aftermath revealed a store window riddled with bullet holes and scattered shell casings littering the parking lot.

The deceased victims have been identified as Shirley Taylor, 62; Callie Weems, 23; Roy Sturgis, 50; and Ellen Shrum, 81, all of whom were civilians. Meanwhile, the wounded individuals, ranging in age from 20 to 65, continue to receive medical care, with four individuals still hospitalized, including a woman in critical condition.

Notably, the two wounded law enforcement officers have been identified as Fordyce Police Officer James Johnson, 31, who has been discharged from the hospital, and Stuttgart Police Officer John Hudson, 24, who sustained minor injuries.

The suspect, Travis Eugene Posey, 44, hailing from New Edinburg, is set to face four counts of capital murder. Following an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement, Posey was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and subsequently taken into police custody before being transferred to the Ouachita County Detention Center.
