Authorities in West Haven, Connecticut, reported a disturbing incident this weekend involving a New York man who allegedly tried to drown his two children at a local beach. The West Haven Police Department detailed the harrowing event in a social media post on Saturday, June 22.
According to the police report, an officer on patrol heard “significant screaming” coming from the water around 2:31 a.m. The officer quickly located a man and two small children in the water. As the officer approached, the man attempted to move further away with the children while shouting at the officers to stay back.
The man, identified as 41-year-old Romney Desronvil from Queens, was allegedly seen deliberately trying to drown his children. The officers sprang into action, entering the water and successfully rescuing the kids with the assistance of the West Shore Fire Department.
After being brought to shore, the children were rushed to a local hospital, where life-saving measures were administered by the authorities. Desronvil was subsequently arrested and is expected to face charges of two counts of attempted murder and two counts of risk of injury.
During a press conference, West Haven Police Chief Joseph Perno commended the swift response of the officers, stating that their actions undoubtedly saved the lives of the children. Mayor Dorinda Borer also praised the officers for their bravery and quick thinking in the face of such a dangerous situation.
The children, both under the age of 3, were reported to be improving in the hospital. Their mother, who was in New York at the time of the incident, arrived in New Haven later that day. Fire Chief Stephen Scafariello highlighted the prompt and effective response of the emergency personnel, emphasizing the high level of care provided to the children.
