Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A woman in Texas has been charged with attempted capital murder and injury to a child after allegedly trying to drown a 3-year-old child at an apartment complex pool and making racial statements, according to police.

The incident, which occurred on May 19 at an apartment complex pool in Euless, Texas, has sparked outrage and calls for a hate crime investigation. The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has identified the family involved as Muslim and Palestinian, and has called on state and federal authorities to investigate the incident as a hate crime.

According to witnesses, the woman, identified as Elizabeth Wolf, 42, was very intoxicated and attempted to drown the child while making racial statements towards the child’s mother, who was visibly Muslim and wearing a hijab and modest swimwear.

The victim’s mother recounted the terrifying ordeal, stating that Wolf questioned her nationality and made derogatory remarks before attempting to grab her 6-year-old son. When the boy resisted, Wolf allegedly grabbed the 3-year-old daughter and forced her underwater. The mother was able to rescue her daughter, who was coughing up water and visibly traumatized.

Both children were examined by medical personnel and cleared of any serious injuries. However, the emotional impact of the incident has left the family feeling unsafe and fearful in their own home.

Despite being arrested for public intoxication, Wolf was able to post bail and has been released from custody. The charges against her include attempted capital murder and injury to a child, with bail set at $25,000 and $15,000 respectively.

The community and local officials have condemned the incident, with Texas Rep. Salman Bhojani expressing shock and disgust at the alleged racist and Islamophobic behaviour. He has pledged support to the affected family and called for a thorough investigation into the incident.

As the investigation continues, the family is left grappling with the traumatic aftermath of the incident, with the mother expressing her fear and uncertainty about their safety in the face of such hate and violence.

Call for justice and peace

CAIR has called for a hate crime probe and increased bail for Wolf, as well as a dialogue with officials to address the rise in Islamophobia and anti-Arab sentiment. The organisation has reiterated the need for justice and peace in the community, urging authorities to take swift action to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

As the case unfolds, the family is hoping for a resolution that brings them a sense of security and protection, while also sending a strong message against hate and discrimination in all its forms.
