Mumbai: A 41-year-old man, identified as Sirajuddhin Jamaluddhin Shaikh alias Chand, was apprehended by the Nagpada police in Mumbai for the alleged murder of his live-in partner, Aarti Vijay Singh. The incident occurred on June 12, when Shaikh reportedly stabbed Singh multiple times following a domestic dispute.
Details of the Incident
Shaikh, a resident of Foras Road in Nagpada, attempted to cover up the crime by rushing Singh to BYL Nair Hospital and claiming that she had sustained injuries from falling on a wooden plank with iron nails. However, medical professionals at the hospital suspected foul play and alerted the authorities.
Background of the Deceased
Investigations revealed that Singh, a mother of seven children from previous relationships, had been residing with Shaikh for approximately a year. Prior to that, she had been married to a man from Amravati with whom she had two kids. Subsequently, she lived with another man in Mumbai and had four children with him, before moving in with Shaikh.
Arrest and Charges
Following Singh’s demise, hospital staff notified the police about their suspicions of foul play based on the nature of her injuries. Subsequently, Shaikh was tracked down using his mobile phone location data and taken into custody. He has been charged under Section 302 (Murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
