Accident – Death – Obituary News : Arkansas State Police have confirmed that a tragic incident took place on Saturday evening, resulting in the death of one individual and leaving 11 civilians, two law enforcement officers, and the suspect injured by gunfire. The shooting occurred at approximately 11.30am local time on Friday at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce, situated about 65 miles south of the state capital, Little Rock.
The victims of this senseless act have been identified as Shirley Taylor, aged 62, Callie Weems, aged 23, Roy Sturgis, aged 50, and Ellen Shrum, aged 81, all of whom were civilians. Police reports indicate that the injured individuals range in age between 20 and 65, with four remaining hospitalized, including a woman in critical condition. Among the injured were Fordyce police officer James Johnson, aged 31, who has since been discharged from the hospital, and Stuttgart police officer John Hudson, aged 24, whose injuries were described as minor.
The alleged suspect in this tragedy has been named as Travis Eugene Posey, aged 44, from New Edinburg, and will be facing four counts of capital murder. Following an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement, Posey was treated for non-life-threatening injuries before being taken into police custody and transferred to the Ouachita County Detention Centre.
Roderick Rogers, a member of the city council, recounted the chaotic scene that unfolded after employees at his nearby restaurant alerted him to the shooting. He described witnessing people frantically seeking shelter, with some even running to the nearby hospital for safety. Videos shared on social media captured the harrowing moments, showing individuals taking cover and gunshots echoing in the background.
Images captured by reporters at the scene revealed the aftermath of the shooting, with bullet holes visible in the shop’s windows and spent shell casings scattered across the car park. The community of Fordyce has been left reeling from this tragic event, with authorities working diligently to bring justice to those affected by this appalling act of violence.
