The Memphis Police Department has announced the arrest of a 24-year-old man for allegedly making public threats on social media. Derrick White was taken into custody by MPD officers following an investigation into the online threat.
The incident was reported to the authorities on June 22 at around 7:00 a.m. after concerns were raised about a potential threat made on social media platforms. The MPD, in collaboration with the Office of Homeland Security, launched an investigation to identify the individual responsible for the threat.
During the course of the investigation, Derrick White was identified as the suspect behind the threatening posts. Additionally, it was discovered that White had an active arrest warrant for aggravated assault, further complicating the situation.
Following his arrest, Derrick White now faces charges not only for the aggravated assault warrant but also for the commission of an act of terrorism. The MPD has assured the public that they take all threats seriously and will continue to investigate and prosecute individuals who engage in such behaviour.
