Accident – Death – Obituary News :

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. — In a heartbreaking turn of events, three Alabama fathers lost their lives on Friday in the Gulf of Mexico after being caught in a rip current at a beach in the Florida Panhandle, authorities confirmed.

The victims were identified as Harold Denzel Hunter, 25; Jemonda Ray, 24; and Marius Richardson, 24. All three men hailed from Birmingham, according to a news release shared by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook.

Ray and Richardson were cousins, while Hunter was a close friend, as reported by AL.com.

The tragic incident unfolded when an emergency call around 8 p.m. CDT prompted deputies to rush to a section of Panama City Beach located behind the Watercrest Condominiums, as per the Panama City Herald.

The group of men had arrived in Panama City to stay at an Airbnb, according to AL.com.

Sheriff Tommy Ford shared on Facebook that the men ventured into the water shortly after checking into their rental, only to be swept away while in chest-high water. Despite efforts to rescue them from the turbulent waters, they were unable to be saved and succumbed to the forces of nature at a local hospital, as outlined by AL.com.

Ray, Richardson, and Hunter leave behind grieving loved ones, including young children and spouses. Their untimely demise has left a void in the hearts of their families and communities.

The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by rip currents, especially during periods of high surf and strong currents. The National Weather Service issued a warning for rip currents along Panhandle beaches in Bay, Walton, Gulf, and Franklin counties, underscoring the need for beach safety and awareness.

The loss of these three young fathers echoes a similar tragedy that occurred just days prior on Florida’s east coast, where two individuals from Pennsylvania lost their lives to rip currents at Stuart Beach. The incidents highlight the unpredictable and treacherous nature of ocean currents, urging visitors to exercise caution and vigilance while enjoying the beach.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of Harold Denzel Hunter, Jemonda Ray, and Marius Richardson during this difficult time. May their memories be cherished and their legacy remembered.
