Elizabeth Jean MacDonald, aged 31, from Sarasota, was observed selecting various items in the store, placing some in a shopping cart and concealing others in her purse or a bag she had brought along, as per a report by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Upon reaching a self-checkout aisle, she scanned and paid for merchandise worth $91, but failed to scan or pay for items amounting to $55 hidden in her bag.
Upon exiting the store, MacDonald was confronted by a loss prevention agent. She then proceeded to enter a gray Nissan Altima, which swiftly departed the parking lot. A Sumter County Sheriff’s deputy managed to locate the vehicle at a nearby Citgo gas station. The driver and registered owner of the car was identified as 36-year-old Robert Louis Johnson Jr. from Cape Coral. Johnson was reportedly out on bond in a Lee County case where he faces charges of battery, witness tampering, and false imprisonment. A search of the Nissan Altima revealed the presence of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
Furthermore, a passenger in the vehicle, 43-year-old Melissa Jones from Cape Coral, was found in possession of psilocybin mushrooms inside her purse, alongside a black digital scale. Additionally, MacDonald was found to be carrying fentanyl and drug paraphernalia. Subsequently, all three individuals were placed under arrest and taken to the Sumter County Detention Center for processing.
