SOUTHERN IND. — Three Indianapolis men were arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase across multiple counties on Friday.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., an Indiana State Police trooper stopped a vehicle speeding on I-65. Court documents reveal that the vehicle was clocked at 87 mph in a 70 mph zone near the 14-mile marker. As the trooper approached the vehicle, it suddenly sped off, initiating a chase.

The vehicle exited the Sellersburg exit, re-entered the interstate on the northbound side, and continued north at speeds exceeding 100 mph, according to ISP reports.

State troopers and officers from neighbouring areas joined the pursuit, trying to stop the vehicle with Stop Stick tire deflation devices. Despite these efforts, the driver managed to evade the devices and was observed throwing an unknown substance out of the window as the vehicle fled north.

The chase passed through Scott and Jackson Counties on I-65 before the driver crossed the median just about five miles south of Columbus, Ind. The vehicle then drove northbound on the southbound side before exiting at the Columbus exit. However, as it attempted to exit, it collided with another vehicle. Fortunately, the second vehicle only sustained minor damage, and no injuries were reported. The driver continued northward.

Finally, near the 81-mile marker, officers successfully deployed Stop Sticks, causing the pickup to come to a stop near the 82-mile marker, as stated in court documents. The three occupants were then taken into custody without incident.

Police later discovered that the dealer plates on the vehicle had been reported stolen, according to court documents.

The driver, identified as 35-year-old James Vinson from Indianapolis, faces several charges, including resisting law enforcement, vehicle theft, habitual traffic violator, criminal recklessness with a vehicle, false informing, possession of marijuana, and numerous warrants out of Marion County.
