Authorities in Louisville, Kentucky, are currently investigating a tragic incident that occurred in rural Harrison County, Indiana. The incident, which took place on Friday, resulted in the death of two individuals and left another injured. Indiana State Police are leading the investigation into the matter.

Details of the Incident

The Harrison County officers, in conjunction with state troopers, responded to a residence located in the 3000 block of Mosquito Creek Road near Laconia. Upon arrival, they discovered a 56-year-old man named Marion Young who had sustained a gunshot wound to the arm. Despite his injury, Young managed to flee to a nearby house to seek help. He was subsequently transported to a hospital in Louisville for medical treatment. Fortunately, Young’s injuries are reported to be non-life threatening.

Authorities attempted to make contact with the other two individuals present at the residence where the shooting occurred, but were unsuccessful in receiving a response. Upon further inspection of the property, the police found an elderly man and woman lying outside the back door of the house. The victims were identified as 84-year-old Donald Ray Weaver and 82-year-old Virginia Scoffield, who is Young’s mother.

According to the ongoing investigation, it is believed that Weaver and Young were involved in some form of altercation earlier that evening. Following the confrontation, Young stepped outside the house, prompting Weaver to follow suit and subsequently fire a shot that struck Young in the arm. After Young sought help at a neighbor’s house, additional gunshots were heard emanating from the residence.

Police suspect that Weaver fatally shot Scofield, who had also emerged from the house during the initial incident, before turning the gun on himself. Autopsies are scheduled to be conducted on both victims to determine the exact cause of death.
