Two residents of Fairfield Plantation are facing multiple charges in connection with a home invasion that took place inside the gated community. The incident occurred on June 11, when Carroll County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a home invasion on the 1100 block of Lookout Court.

Details of the Home Invasion

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies encountered five young girls running towards them in a state of distress. The girls were reportedly screaming in fear, with a man identified as Gene Richard Zelepuza following closely behind them. Zelepuza was apprehended by law enforcement and informed of his rights.

According to reports, Zelepuza confessed to deputies that he had forcibly entered the residence by kicking open a door. He allegedly threatened to shoot the lock off the door during the incident. The victims of the home invasion reported feeling terrified by Zelepuza’s actions.

Statements from the Suspect and Homeowner

Zelepuza claimed that he had been prompted to break into the home by the homeowner, Jill Ann McDonald, who had informed him of squatters in the basement who were threatening her. However, McDonald stated that she could not recall making such statements to Zelepuza when questioned by authorities.

Both Zelepuza and McDonald were taken into custody for further questioning. Zelepuza reiterated his admission of breaking into the residence, citing McDonald’s alleged plea for help as his motivation. McDonald, on the other hand, requested legal representation and terminated the interview.

Legal Charges and Consequences

Zelepuza is facing several felony charges, including second-degree home invasion, terroristic threats and acts, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony. Additionally, he is charged with four counts of second-degree cruelty to children.

McDonald is also facing charges of second-degree home invasion and four counts of second-degree cruelty to children. Both suspects have been denied bond and are currently held at the Carroll County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
