SAN MATEO — Authorities in San Mateo have apprehended four individuals from the Bay Area in connection with the theft of approximately $10,000 worth of clothing from a Lululemon store located at the Hillsdale Shopping Center.

The incident unfolded around 2 p.m. when witnesses reported three individuals hastily grabbing clothing items and making a quick exit from the store. They fled to a waiting white Subaru Outback, which then sped off towards Highway 101.

A regional organized retail theft task force, in collaboration with the San Mateo Police Department, tracked the vehicle into San Francisco. Despite attempts to intercept the car, the driver evaded capture and engaged in reckless driving, prompting authorities to terminate the pursuit out of concern for public safety.

Subsequently, the abandoned Subaru was located, and all four suspects were apprehended shortly thereafter. Stolen merchandise was recovered both within the vehicle and in possession of the individuals.

According to police reports, the Subaru had been reported stolen earlier in the day. The suspects, identified as a 32-year-old San Francisco resident, a 31-year-old Antioch resident, and two 30-year-old San Francisco residents, were taken into custody and booked into San Mateo County jail on charges including organized retail theft, grand theft, and second-degree burglary.

Additionally, the 30-year-old San Francisco man faces additional charges for unauthorized vehicle use, possession of a stolen vehicle, and reckless evasion.
