Arrest Made in Theft and Menacing Incident

Authorities in Ashland have made an arrest in connection with a theft and menacing case that occurred at a local grocery store. The incident took place on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Market of Choice on Siskiyou Boulevard. Police received a report of a shoplifter who was uncooperative and armed with what appeared to be a gun. The suspect was said to have fled to the nearby Pines Trailer Park.

Officers from the Ashland Police Department quickly responded to the scene and set up a perimeter around the trailer park. They were joined by deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, as well as officers from the Oregon State Police and Talent Police Department. A K9 team from the sheriff’s office was brought in to assist in locating the suspect.

After a thorough search, the K9 team was able to track down the suspect, who was found hiding underneath one of the residences in the trailer park. The individual, identified as Thomas Harley Epperson, a 31-year-old resident of Ashland, was taken into custody without incident.

During the apprehension, law enforcement officers located the weapon that the suspect had reportedly used during the incident. It was determined to be a pepper spray gun, designed to resemble a handgun. Epperson has been charged with menacing, disorderly conduct, and theft in the 3rd degree, and has been lodged at the Jackson County Jail.

The Ashland Police Department expressed their gratitude for the assistance provided by their partner agencies in resolving the situation safely and swiftly. They also clarified that the image attached to the article depicts a similar type of weapon to the one recovered, and not the actual evidence collected.
