Stolen SUV crashes into police cars in Arlington
A dramatic incident unfolded in Arlington as a suspect allegedly drove a stolen SUV and intentionally crashed it into two police vehicles. FOX 5’s Shomari Stone has obtained exclusive video footage and interviewed a witness.
ARLINGTON, Va. – The individual behind the wheel of the stolen SUV that collided with police cars in Arlington has been apprehended.
The individual in question has been identified as 19-year-old Khairi Jones from Washington, D.C.
Law enforcement officials initially spotted an unoccupied stolen vehicle in a parking garage on the 800 block of Army Navy Drive at approximately 4:58 p.m. Upon the arrival of additional officers, Jones and a female companion approached and entered the vehicle.
As officers initiated a vehicle stop, Jones, who was driving, accelerated and attempted to flee, striking a police vehicle occupied by an officer. The officer narrowly avoided being hit as they jumped out of harm’s way. Subsequently, while trying to exit the parking garage, Jones encountered more responding officers who attempted a second vehicle stop.
Despite commands from law enforcement, the suspect deliberately rammed another occupied police vehicle before being taken into custody. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Authorities recovered a modified fully automatic handgun, ammunition, high-capacity magazines, suspected narcotics, a stolen license plate, and credit cards not belonging to Jones at the scene.
Jones faces a litany of charges including attempted malicious wounding of police (x3), unauthorized use of a vehicle, possession of a machine gun in a violent crime, possession with intent to distribute schedule I/II controlled substances, possession of a firearm while in possession of schedule I/II controlled substances, carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a loaded firearm with a high-capacity magazine, hit-and-run, eluding, receiving stolen goods, and credit card theft (x2).
He has been remanded in custody without the option for bail.
