Stacy Lee Drake, 50, was taken into custody in Arkansas on Thursday, according to Capt. Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit. Drake, described as transient, is linked to the death of Russell Thomas Andrews in Tuscaloosa.
The Tuscaloosa Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious death at Alcoholics Anonymous, located at 2025 Jack Warner Parkway, on May 14. Andrews was identified as the victim. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation as they suspected foul play in Andrews’ death.
Kennedy revealed that Andrews’ vehicle was stolen after his death, and a surveillance camera captured the vehicle near the Arkansas-Oklahoma border following the crime. Drake was subsequently identified as the suspect in Andrews’ murder, leading to a warrant being issued for his arrest.
Despite initially using a false name, Drake was successfully identified as the suspect in Andrews’ death through collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies. With Drake believed to be outside Tuscaloosa County and his whereabouts unknown, the U.S. Marshals Task Force was called in to track him down nationwide.
Drake has a history of criminal activities in multiple states, including robberies, carjackings, and kidnappings. He is also a suspect in a double homicide case in Oklahoma. In Alabama, Drake has previous arrests and indictments for various crimes in Pickens County.
