The South Bend Police Department has apprehended a suspect in connection with a tragic shooting incident that took place on June 20 on Parry Street. The incident resulted in the death of one woman and injuries to two others.
22-year-old Rya Barnes was identified as a suspect in the case and was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon following an intensive investigation by SBPD officials. The shooting claimed the life of 28-year-old Jasmine Swanson, who was found with gunshot wounds at the scene in the 500 block of Parry Street.
During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that two additional women had also sustained gunshot wounds and were admitted to a local hospital for treatment. The current condition of the hospitalized victims has not been disclosed by the authorities.
Following her arrest, Barnes was transferred to the St. Joseph County Jail, where she is awaiting a formal decision on charges from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s office.
