The South Bend Police Department has successfully apprehended a suspect in connection with a tragic shooting incident that occurred on Parry Street on June 20. The incident resulted in the death of a 28-year-old woman, Jasmine Swanson, and left two other women injured.
Rya Barnes, aged 22, was identified as a suspect in the case and was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon following intensive investigations by the SBPD. The police were alerted to the situation when they found Swanson with gunshot wounds in the 500 block of Parry Street at approximately 12:25 a.m. on June 20.
Subsequently, two additional female victims arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds from the same incident. The names and current conditions of the hospitalized victims have not been disclosed by the authorities.
Barnes has been transferred to the St. Joseph County Jail, where she will await a formal charging decision from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s office. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, with authorities working diligently to bring justice to the victims and their families.
