Accident – Death – Obituary News : Two teenage girls tragically lost their lives while riding a jet ski on a lake in Illinois after colliding with a boat on Tuesday. The victims have been identified as Elle Kim, a 13-year-old from Long Grove, Illinois, and Sarina Vootkur, a 16-year-old from Lake Forest, California, as reported by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and CBS News.
An investigation led by the sheriff’s office and the Illinois Conservation Police is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the deadly accident.
According to authorities, the 16-year-old girl was operating the Yamaha jet ski on Lake Marie in Antioch, with the 13-year-old as her passenger. The pair was travelling north near the channel to Grass Lake when the tragic collision occurred.
At the same time, a 55-year-old man was driving a Sea Ray Cabin Cruiser in the same area. The man was heading westbound when the jet ski approached at a high speed, leading to the unavoidable collision.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the jet ski was operating recklessly before the crash, causing the boat and jet ski to collide. Both occupants of the jet ski, who were wearing life vests, were knocked unconscious and thrown into the water upon impact.
The four occupants of the Sea Ray immediately pulled the girls from the water, called for emergency assistance, and provided aid until help arrived.
The girls were then taken to a local hospital, where they sadly succumbed to their injuries. Fortunately, no one else was harmed in the tragic incident. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office expressed their condolences to the families of the victims.
Boater Randy Chimola shared his thoughts on the incident with CBS News, emphasizing the dangers of inexperience and lack of control while operating watercraft. He highlighted the importance of caution and vigilance when navigating the waters to prevent such devastating accidents.
