Accident – Death – Obituary News :

CHICAGO — Authorities have a person of interest in custody in connection with the devastating murder of 7-year-old Jai’mani Amir Rivera earlier this week in the Near West Side neighborhood of Chicago.

While charges have not yet been filed, police confirmed on Friday that an individual is being held in custody in relation to the case.

The tragedy unfolded around 3 p.m. on Tuesday when law enforcement officers responded to a distressing call on the 2300 block of West Jackson Boulevard. Upon arrival, they discovered young Jai’mani Amir Rivera with a gunshot wound to his chest. Despite their efforts to save him, the boy succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to Stroger Hospital.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the victim as Jai’mani Amir Rivera.

During a press conference following the incident, Superintendent Larry Snelling stated that authorities do not believe Rivera was deliberately targeted, highlighting that the gunshots appeared to have been fired from a considerable distance away.

Expressing his condolences and outrage, Snelling emphasized the unbearable pain that the parents of the 7-year-old must be enduring, condemning the senseless violence plaguing the city.

“This is a time where I can tell you right now that the violence that’s going on in this city right now, for the parents of this 7-year-old, it has to be unbearable,” Snelling remarked. “And it’s unbearable and unacceptable for everyone in our city.”

Notably, Jai’mani Amir Rivera became the 127th child to fall victim to gun violence in Chicago this year, reflecting the alarming escalation of such incidents.

In remembrance of Rivera, a march is scheduled to take place on Friday afternoon to honour his memory and advocate for an end to such tragedies.
