Portland Triple Murder Suspect Indicted in Case Involving High School Students

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A suspect has been formally charged in connection with the tragic triple murder that shook Portland’s Portsmouth Neighborhood back in March 2023, claiming the lives of two high school students and a 20-year-old individual.

Following the shooting incident, 18-year-old Omar Mohammed Osman emerged as a potential suspect, according to a statement released by the Portland Police Bureau. After presenting the case to a grand jury on March 10 of this year, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office secured an indictment against Osman on multiple charges of first- and second-degree murder, alongside other related offenses.

At the time of the indictment, Osman was already in custody on unrelated charges at the MacLaren Youth Correction Facility in Marion County. Authorities have stated that they are actively seeking additional suspects believed to be linked to the case.

The discovery of three deceased individuals inside a vehicle near the Charles Jordan Community Center on March 25, 2023, came following reports of a shooting incident around 12:30 p.m. The victims were later identified as 17-year-old Eskender Tamra, 19-year-old Babu Daudi, and 20-year-old Patrick D. Johnson, Jr.

Speaking on the indictment, Chief Bob Day remarked, “This brazen act of violence in broad daylight within a residential area not only resulted in the tragic loss of three young lives but also deeply impacted our entire community. It is my hope that this legal action marks the initial stage of healing for the grieving families of the victims and our community as a whole.”

Osman now faces six counts of first-degree murder, four counts of second-degree murder, seven counts of unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, seven counts of recklessly endangering another person, and first-degree animal abuse in relation to the case.

The investigation into this tragic event is ongoing, and the Portland Police Department urges anyone with information regarding additional suspects yet to be identified to come forward and assist in the case.
