North Las Vegas authorities have provided additional information regarding the officer-involved shooting that took place on Saturday night at the intersection of Craig Road and N. 5th Street.

The incident occurred at 9:07 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a four-vehicle crash. Witnesses reported that the driver of a Silver Chevy Malibu ran a red light on 5th Street and collided with other vehicles on Craig Road.

According to a witness, the driver responsible for the crash was armed with a firearm and was threatening individuals who approached the vehicle. When the North Las Vegas Fire Department arrived to provide assistance, they too were threatened by the armed driver.

Upon the arrival of law enforcement, officers attempted to de-escalate the situation by instructing the man to drop his weapon multiple times. Despite their efforts, the suspect remained in his vehicle and disregarded commands. Subsequently, the suspect raised his weapon towards the officers, prompting seven officers to open fire, resulting in the fatal shooting of 57-year-old Julian McCoy.

Upon searching McCoy’s vehicle, authorities discovered a Browning BL-22 .22 caliber long rifle loaded with 15 bullets, as well as alcohol and drug paraphernalia. Preliminary toxicology results revealed the presence of cocaine, alcohol, fentanyl, and methamphetamine in McCoy’s system at the time of the incident.

The officers involved in the shooting have been identified as follows:

  • Officer Darren Rigsby – fired 3 shots
  • Officer Alexandre Chevalier – fired 7 shots
  • Officer Logan Guerin – fired 13 shots
  • Officer Christopher Dellorco – fired 15 shots
  • Officer Timothy Barnes – fired 11 shots
  • Officer Rodrigo Garcia – fired 26 shots
  • Officer Robert Ryan – fired 17 shots

Authorities indicated that McCoy would have faced multiple charges, including eight counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a protected person, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a firearm while under the influence, and DUI involving a collision had he survived. McCoy had a lengthy criminal history and was on felony probation for a prior theft at the time of the incident.
