Accident – Death – Obituary News : Lucknow: A heartwarming act of kindness turned into a nightmare for a senior citizen in Vrindavan Yojana, Lucknow, when two criminals took advantage of his generosity and robbed him at gunpoint. The incident occurred on June 12 at the residence of retired senior citizen Jay Prakash Singh in Sector 7.

According to the police, the perpetrators, identified as Brijesh Pratap, 26, and Vinod Kumar, 36, devised a cunning plan to gain entry into the elderly man’s home. Brijesh pretended to be suffering from a heatstroke on the roadside, while Vinod approached Singh’s residence, seeking urgent help for his “unwell” friend.

As Singh went to fetch water for the purported heatstroke victim, Brijesh attacked him from behind, forcing his way into the house. The duo then brandished firearms to intimidate the elderly resident and carried out the robbery. The terrified victim was left shaken by the harrowing ordeal.

The quick response from the PGI police led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of a .315 bore rifle along with three live cartridges used during the crime. DCP East Prabal Pratap Singh confirmed that the accused, originally from Amethi and Krishnanagar, Lucknow, were taken into custody.

The police meticulously reviewed footage from over 150 CCTV cameras in a 10km radius to identify the culprits. With the help of informants, the suspects were located near Sichai Puram colony and apprehended on Wednesday evening. The police revealed that the criminals believed the elderly man might have a substantial amount of cash at home, prompting them to commit the robbery.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of staying vigilant and cautious, especially towards strangers seeking help. The elderly are often seen as easy targets by criminals due to their vulnerability, making it crucial for everyone to exercise caution and prioritize their safety.
