Meagan Spurgeon : Tragic Summer Camp Crash Claims Mom and Boyfriend

WILLIAMSTOWN, Ky. (Gray News) – Tragedy struck in Kentucky as a mother and her boyfriend lost their lives in a fatal crash involving an alleged drunken driver earlier this month.

The victims, identified as 30-year-old Meagan Spurgeon and 32-year-old Joshua Turza, were on their way home after dropping off Spurgeon’s young daughter, AnnaStella, at summer camp when the incident occurred.

A heart-wrenching GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support the family during this difficult time. The page describes Meagan as a beloved daughter, mother, and friend, who was taken from her loved ones far too soon.

According to a report from WXIX, the tragic incident took place around 11 p.m. on June 10 on Interstate 75 in Grant County, Kentucky. The driver responsible for the crash, identified as Jody Miller, 47, is facing multiple charges in connection with the incident.

Court records obtained by WOIO revealed that Miller was driving at 132 mph in a 70 mph zone when he passed a Kentucky State Trooper. He then accelerated to 153 mph in an attempt to evade the trooper, ultimately colliding with the back of the Kia carrying Spurgeon and Turza.

Tragically, the couple lost their lives at the scene of the crash. Troopers reported that Miller smelled of alcohol when he was pulled from the vehicle.

Following the incident, Miller was taken to the hospital, where he admitted to consuming alcohol at an Applebee’s in Knoxville, Tennessee, before stopping at a truck stop on I-75. He claimed to have no recollection of the events leading up to the crash.

Miller now faces charges, including two counts of vehicular homicide while under the influence of alcohol, which could result in a significant prison sentence if convicted.

Meagan Spurgeon, as described in her obituary, was a dedicated mother who adored her daughter and was passionate about her work as a registered nurse at CCF Lutheran Hospital.
